Aquila Hills Australian Natives

Rebecca Hildebrand is the founder and curator of Aquila Hills Australian Natives. A scientist with a PhD in fire ecology, Rebecca has a long-standing fascination with Australian native plants, seeds and the natural world.

Aquila Hills Australian Natives

Aquila Hills Australian Natives is a small Australian business celebrating the beauty, diversity and science of Australia’s native flora. We create thoughtfully curated native seed Discovery Kits and monthly subscriptions, bringing Australian native seeds, growing knowledge and nature-based activities straight to your door.

Designed to help people Grow • Learn • Connect, each Discovery Kit offers the chance to discover a different Australian native species — from seed through to flower — while learning about the ecology, science and stories behind it.

Aquila Hills is about making Australian native gardening accessible, curious and genuinely rewarding, one species at a time.

Distinguished and Famous people from Lane Cove

🌟 Guy Warren and William Pidgeon

Artists Lloyd Rees, Guy Warren and William Pidgeon helped give Lane Cove an enduring public art tradition. Alongside Reinis Zusters, they served on the Lane Cove Art Panel established in 1962; the first municipal exhibition followed in 1963. The resulting art award brought established artists into contact with a wider community of local makers. Rees was a two-time Wynne Prize winner, Warren won both the Archibald and Wynne prizes, and Pidgeon won the Archibald three times. Their local contribution was not confined to individual reputations: they helped build a platform where other artists could exhibit. Warren returned as a special guest for the exhibition’s fiftieth year and donated a work for a raffle, a small practical gesture within a long association.

🎨 Lloyd Rees

Lloyd Rees’s Northwood home was a base for a long artistic life around Sydney Harbour. As a young artist he became known for meticulous architectural drawings; later work explored broader effects of landscape, light and atmosphere. From the 1940s into the 1960s, he was part of the Northwood group of friends who painted around the harbour and beyond. His contribution also included teaching and writing. A David Moore portrait made at Northwood when Rees was ninety preserves a late moment in that association. Here the link is home, creative work and shared artistic activity, alongside his role in establishing Lane Cove’s public art tradition.
